Maryborough's claim to fame in Queensland is on its engineering prowness, having built many locomotives used in transportation and gearing used in mining to bring the ore to the surface. Maryborough is also home to a respected teachers college. Liz attended school there. While it is a neet and clean town, there is not the signs of prosperity found in other towns we will visit on this trip. Before you get to Maryborough from Brisbane, on the left is a Mandarin packing facility. You can look in there and see how Mandarin oranges are stored, graded and packed. Culls are available for a bargain price. A petrol station is in front of the packing shed. A small pond with blooming lily pads and goldfish and eels is something to look at while your rest for a while.
