The bay at Gladstone is protected so the beach is mainly mud and seashells. Along the northeast coast, it is more than likely stingers will be in the water along the beaches that can be deadly serious for swimmers. Public beaches have stinger nets which if they work right keep them out..and the swimmers safe. The Gladstone Marina is beautiful at sunset. To the east across the bay is an aluminum smelter. Further north is Rockhampton lovingly know as 'Rockie'. The highspeed Tilt Train from Brisbane ends there. Rockhampton is right on the Tropic of Capricorn. The Tropic of Capricorn is the furtherest south the sun travels before turning back north. From Rockhampton north the temperatures esculate in both Spring and Summer. Rockhampton has a botanical garden which is pretty in July and August. West of Rockhampton is Blackwater, a coal mining area. There is a quaint train station museum with a steam train display. On the other side of the highway one will see freight trains carrying provisions to as far west as Winton and some on the way back carrying coal from Blackwater.
