My first few days in Australia were spent, meeting my hosts and acquaintences that I had made over the internet, through participation in the Parkinsn List, #Parkinsons chat channel on the Undernet, and on Freetel, which is a voice telephony type program.
My hosts were Allan, Liz, Jenny, Peter and Shiva. Shiva was our protector.

This is Shiva....in one of her weaker moments.

My other Gold Coast host was Christine's family during my stay. They reacquainted me with the family traditions practiced by Filipino people where ever they may be. Christine and her family are Australian citizens of Filipino descent.
The first extended trip for Liz, Allan and I was to go up the coast of Queensland to the area called Sunshine Coast. It is seaside all the way, with small beachcomber communities along the way. I brought my metal detector from the States, so Allan and I could do some beach 'treasure hunting' while Liz was attending a business meeting and lunch.

Naturally Australians never go unprepared for 'tea', so we stopped along
the way...for coffee and 'biscuits'. (biscuits are cookies). l-r Allan,

During our 'expedition' we found a gold colored ring that Allan said,
"In absence of any appraisal...it was worth a lot". Other notable
things found included original pegs from Capt. Cook's sailing ship.

The businessman's lunch at this riverside cafe was pick your own and we
cook'em. This was where Liz ate with her associates.....Allan and I went
next door and had homemade icecream....coffee flavored, made with 43 beans.
In the case to the left you can see crab and prawns and red snapper. Prawns
are huge shrimp...most are larger than
jumbo.
