I learned about the Fourth Australian Multi-Disiplinary Conference on Parkinson's Disease, being held in Perth, from Dennis and Joy by email on the Parkinsn List and chat on the #Parkinsons Chat Channel on the Undernet. I planned my trip to include the Perth Conference.
Dennis was my host for the next five days. Celia, who traveled from Melbourne with us, was giving a presentation on Parkinson's and the Internet. Liz and I were to assist in the conference computer center. Dennis and his wife Jo were featured in a surgery forum to discuss Pallidotomy from the patient and from the caregiver viewpoints.
Since it is helpful to kind of get your bearings around Perth, below is the map.

The blue star or asterick is where
the conference was held. The Letter Z is where Dennis
took us the first stop. The letter X is King's Park
on Mt. Eliza. The letter W is for Wagyl (pronounced woggle).
|
Since Liz and I were a couple of days early for the conference, Dennis gave us an unofficial tour.

Perth is located on the Swan River, said by some to be the former habitat of a wagyl. You never know what is in some of these waters. This glimpse of Perth, across the river, was from the Sir James Mitchell Park in South Perth. |

We stopped here on our way to Fremantle. Ferry and water taxi service is available up and down the Swan river. Dinner cruises are available also. Recreational parks line the river banks. |
At Fremantle, we met the entourage from Melbourne and joined John and Robyn who would also be our unofficial tour guides for the afternoon.
Downtown Perth is about 10 km inland from the coastline. The Swan river empties into the ocean at Fremantle. Fremantle hosted one of the Americas Cup finals. Don't remember who won.....(Big Grin).
