The Outback Experience 8

Well, the shadows were getting long and it was time to head on down the road to Walgett, perhaps another opal opportunity. We had learned a lot and perhaps with this knowledge come back another day and be more productive with a plan.

Walgett is just a little farming community south of the notorious Lightning Ridge. We camped and will move on tomorrow to Bingara...which is at the start of Fossickers Way, a highway heading south. We really haven't had any opportunity to look for gold and we understand there are some places we could look.

Allan and I headed across the road to the Namoi River which was right next to the campground. Allan headed on down river while I set the camera up for some late afternoon shots. Liz was cooking dinner.

When you are taking pictures like I did on this trip, you don't realize how beautiful things were until you get the film back. This was one of my best, inspite of having to adjust it to avoid having the floating beer bottles in it. (grin)

I call this one "The Aborigine Dreamscape".

Allan in the meantime has met some Aborigines on the bank around the corner. They offered to share their bottle with him....and knowing how gregarious Allan is, he probably imbibed....(Big Grin) Liz and I were waiting and dinner was getting cold. Allan is a life long Australian, and never had the opportunity to just really meet and talk to Aborigines. He was bubbling over when he returned...they had invited us to their bar.

This is a picture of Allan and Liz at dinner, before the pot washing. Copyright jcott@homeboys-adventures-in-australia.com. You can see the smile on Allan's face..thinking Aborigine. Liz is thinking...wait till I pinch a hunk outta him. Liz is an excellent cook. How do I know? Allan always cleans his plate...and the pots and pans. (grin) Afterwards Allan and I went down to the tennis club to watch a Mr. Bean episode and search for that mild Aussie beer.
